Aḥmad said: "I do not know him," and they have narrated similar statements from Abū al-Dardāʾ from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with an isnād that resembles this in its weakness." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Unknown." As for al-Tirmidhī, he said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb." I said: This is part of his leniency for which he is known, and if he had said: "ḥasan" only, it would have been acceptable because the meaning then would be that it is ḥasan due to other factors, and this is supported by what follows from the different paths. 2 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū al-Dardāʾ, it is narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāniʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAblah Abū ʿAmr who said: My father informed us from Ibrāhīm ibn Abī ʿAblah from Umm al-Dardāʾ from them as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And in some of the narrations from him, it adds: "O son of Jaʿsham! It suffices you from it what satisfies your hunger and covers your nakedness, and if it is a garment that covers you, then that is sufficient, and if it is a mount you ride, then excellent, a piece of bread and water from the jar, and anything beyond that is accountable for you." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (2507), Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (5/249), al-Khaṭīb (6/166), and Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (2/268/2, 19/280/1) and the addition is his. I said: This isnād is very weak, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāniʾ was said by al-Dhahabī: "Accused of lying." Abū Ḥātim said: "Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Makhlad al-Harawī narrated false ḥadīths from him, I arrived in Ramla, and it was mentioned to me that he was in one of the villages, and I asked about him, and it was said: He is an old man who lies, so I did not go to him."
