and the context is from Aḥmad, and from Ibn Mājah only the elevated part. I said: This is a good isnād. There is another route narrated by al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, who reported to us from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqamah, from al-Qurthaʿ, from Qays or Ibn Qays—a man from Juʿfī—on the authority of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) passed by while I was with him and Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd while he was reciting. He stood and listened to his recitation, then ʿAbd Allāh bowed and prostrated. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Ask and you will be given, ask and you will be given..." the ḥadīth is similar. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (4/1/199), Aḥmad (1/38 and 39), and al-Ṭabarānī (3/9/1). Then it was recorded by Aḥmad (1/25) through the route of al-Aʿmash from Khaythamah from Qays ibn Marwān from ʿUmar with it. And through his route also from Ibrāhīm from ʿAlqamah from ʿUmar with it. And from this route, it was recorded by al-Ḥākim (2/227 and 3/318) who said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two shaykhs," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: It appears to be disconnected between ʿAlqamah and ʿUmar, between them is al-Qurthaʿ from Qays, who is Qays ibn Marwān as in the previous narration from Ibrāhīm, and he is trustworthy and reliable, with an addition that must be accepted, but in the route to him is al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUbayd Allāh who is al-Nakhaʿī and there is discussion about him, see "al-Mukhtārah" by al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī (253-255 - with my verification). And al-Qurthaʿ and Qays are both truthful as in "al-Taqrīb," so the isnād is good. And the ḥadīth has another route from the narration of Abū al-Ḍuḥā from ʿAbd Allāh as elevated. It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd (2/342)
