- "there is no servant except that he has a reputation in the heavens. If his reputation in the heavens is good, it will be placed good on earth, and if his reputation in the heavens is bad, it will be placed bad on earth." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (p. 326 - his additions) and Ibn ʿAdī (58/2) through the route of Abū al-Walīd from Abū Wakiʿ al-Jarrāḥ ibn Malīḥ from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah, attributed [to the Prophet]. Ibn ʿAdī said: "I do not know anyone who narrated it from al-Aʿmash except Abū Wakiʿ and Saʿīd ibn Bishr." I say: Both of them have weakness in their memory, but Abū Wakiʿ is stronger than him, and Muslim has recorded for him in his "Ṣaḥīḥ." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes mistakes." The rest of the narrators are trustworthy from the men of the two Shaykhs, so the isnād is strong. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/271): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār, and its men are the men of the authentic collections." It was also narrated by Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ from his father with a similar wording. It was recorded by Muslim, al-Tirmidhī, and others, and I have included it in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" under ḥadīth (2207).
