"ʿĪsá son of Maryam will descend, and their leader, the Mahdī, will say: Come, lead us in prayer. He will say: No, indeed some of you are leaders over others, as an honor from Allāh to this ummah." It was recorded by al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāmah in his "Musnad": Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm narrated to us, Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAqīl narrated to us from his father from Wahb ibn Munabbih from Jābir who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It is mentioned in "al-Manār al-Munīf fī al-ṣaḥīḥ wa-al-ḍaʿīf" by Ibn al-Qayyim (pp. 147-148), and he said: "This is a good isnād." Shaykh al-ʿAbbād affirmed it in his treatise on "al-Mahdī" published in the first issue of the twelfth year of "al-Jāmiʿah al-Islāmiyyah" magazine (p. 304). I say: It is as Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allāh have mercy on him, said, for all its narrators are trustworthy from the men of Abū Dāwūd, and it was criticized for the disconnection between Wahb and Jābir. Ibn Maʿīn said about this Ismāʿīl: "Trustworthy, a truthful man, and the document he narrates from Wahb from Jābir is nothing; it is merely a book that reached them, and Wahb did not hear anything from Jābir." Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī critiqued this, saying in "Tahdhīb al-Kamāl": "Abū Bakr ibn Khuzaymah narrated in his 'Ṣaḥīḥ' from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm from Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAqīl from Wahb ibn Munabbih who said: This is what I asked Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh about, and he informed me that the Prophet ﷺ used to say: Tie the waterskins and close the doors... the ḥadīth." And this is a sound isnād to Wahb ibn Munabbih. And in it is a refutation
