al-ʿAjlī said: "A trustworthy Syrian follower." As for Baqiyyah, the discussion about him is well-known, and the prevailing opinion is to accept his ḥadīth if he explicitly states that he heard it from his shaykh. Al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "The majority considered him trustworthy in what he heard from trustworthy sources, and al-Nasāʾī said: If he says: (ḥaddathanā) and (akhbaranā), then he is trustworthy."

- "What do you say? If it is a matter of your worldly affairs, then it is your concern, but if it is a matter of your religion, then it is to me." It was narrated by Imām Aḥmad (5/298) from Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Thābit from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rabāḥ from Abū Qatādah who said: "We were with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on a journey, and he said: If you do not reach water tomorrow, you will be thirsty. So, the people hurriedly went seeking water, and I stayed with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). The Prophet's camel swerved, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) dozed off, so I supported him, and he leaned back, then swerved again, so I supported him, and he leaned back, then swerved until he almost fell off his camel, so I supported him, and he woke up and said: Who is this? I said: Abū Qatādah. He said: How long have you been traveling? I said: Since the night. He said: May Allāh protect you as you have protected His Messenger. Then he said: Let us camp for a while. He turned towards a tree and dismounted, then said: Do you see anyone? I said: Here is a rider, here are two riders, until it reached seven. We said: Guard our prayer for us, so we slept, and nothing woke us except the heat of the sun. We woke up, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mounted and we rode for a while, then he dismounted and said: Do you have water with you? I said: Yes, I have a small container with some water. He said: Bring it. So I brought it to him, and he said: Use it, use it. The people performed ablution, and a small amount remained. He said: Preserve it, O Abū Qatādah! For it will be..
