from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mubārak from him. I said: ʿUtbah ibn Abī Ḥakīm is weak. Ibn Jābir contradicted him by mentioning that Abū al-Muṣabbiḥ al-Awzāʿī narrated to them, saying: "While we were traveling on the path of (Qalamiyyah), the commander Mālik ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Khathʿamī called out to a man leading his horse on the side of the mountain: 'O Abū ʿAbd Allāh! Will you not ride?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say,' and he mentioned it, except that he said: 'an hour of the day, they are forbidden to the Fire.'" It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/225-226). I said: Its chain is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs except for Abū al-Muṣabbiḥ al-Awzāʿī, who is trustworthy. Layth ibn al-Mutawakkil also followed him from Mālik ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Khathʿamī with the first wording. It was also recorded by Aḥmad. This Layth was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Ḥibbān and Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmayr, and the rest of its men are known trustworthy individuals, so the chain is also authentic. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sulaymān also followed them, stating that Mālik ibn ʿAbd Allāh passed by Ḥabīb ibn Maslamah, or Ḥabīb passed by Mālik, while he was leading a horse and walking, and he said: 'Will you not ride? May Allāh carry you.' He mentioned it as a marfūʿ [ḥadīth]. It was recorded by al-Dārimī (2/202). Its men are trustworthy, but I do not know this Ibn Sulaymān. The ḥadīth has a supporting narration from Abū al-Dardāʾ, also marfūʿ, similar to it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/443-444)
