and his teacher Ḥumayd—who is al-Ṭawīl—is from the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. Yazīd ibn Mihrān is trustworthy without dispute. al-ʿAbbās ibn Jaʿfar—who is al-ʿAbbās ibn Abī Ṭālib—is trustworthy, with a biography in "Tārīkh Baghdād" (12/141-142) and elsewhere. He died in the year 258, so the isnād is authentic. al-Haythamī said (10/147): "And its men are trustworthy." In "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" (8/67), from the route of Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī from Ḥumayd from Thābit from Anas, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) visited a man from the Muslims who had become weak like a chick. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "Did you use to supplicate for something or ask Him for it?" He said: Yes, I used to say: O Allāh, whatever you were going to punish me with in the Hereafter, hasten it for me in this world! The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Glory be to Allāh! You cannot bear it, or you are not able to. Why didn't you say: O Allāh, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire?" He said: So he supplicated to Allāh for him, and He healed him.

"Let one of you be independent of people, even with a toothstick." al-Suyūṭī mentioned it in "al-Ziyādah" from the narration of (Hib) from Maymūn ibn Abī Shaybīb as mursal. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned it in "al-ʿIlal" (1/216) from the narration of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muslim from al-Aʿmash from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ and said: "My father said: This is how ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated it, and Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim narrated it from al-Aʿmash from al-Ḥakam
