The second: from Khālid ibn ʿUmayr al-ʿAdawī who said: ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān delivered a sermon to us, praised Allāh, and extolled Him, then said: Now then ... it has been mentioned to us that a stone is thrown into the edge of Hell, and it falls in it for seventy years without reaching its bottom. And it was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2578) through the route of al-Ḥasan who said: ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān said on our pulpit, the pulpit of Basra, from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: and he mentioned it similarly, and said: "We do not know of al-Ḥasan hearing from ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān, as ʿUtbah only came to Basra during the time of ʿUmar, and al-Ḥasan was born two years before the end of ʿUmar's caliphate." The third: from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī as marfūʿ with the wording: "Wail is a valley in Hell in which the disbeliever falls for seventy autumns before reaching its bottom." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (3164) and Aḥmad (3/75) from Ibn Lahīʿah from Darāj from Abū al-Haytham from him with it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A strange ḥadīth, we do not know it as marfūʿ except from the ḥadīth of Ibn Lahīʿah"! I said: Thus he said, but others have known it from the ḥadīth of others, as ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith followed him from Darāj with it. It was narrated by Ibn Ḥibbān (2610)
