and Ibn Abī Laylá followed him from Nāfiʿ without the phrase: "racing with it." It was recorded by Aḥmad.

"He liked sweet and cold [drinks]." It was recorded by Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī in "al-Fawāʾid" (9/260): Muḥammad ibn Ghālib narrated to us, al-Ḥumaydī narrated to us, and this is in "his Musnad" (1/125/257), Sufyān narrated to us from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Then it was narrated from the route of Ibn Ḥanbal: My father narrated to me, Sufyān narrated to us with the wording: "The most beloved drink to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was cold." Then he added (10/276) from the route of Muḥammad ibn Manṣūr al-Jawāz al-Makkī: Sufyān narrated to us with it: "sweet and cold." I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two shaykhs, and it is in "al-Mishkāt" (4282) with similar wording, and it includes the addition: "sweet and cold." It is in "Musnad Aḥmad" (6/38 and 40) with the aforementioned isnād: Sufyān narrated to us with it. Al-Tirmidhī has criticized this ḥadīth for being mursal, and the response to this will come when we revisit the ḥadīth with additional details in the takhrīj and verification, Allāh willing, under number (3006).
