"He would sit on the ground, eat on the ground, tie up the sheep, and respond to the invitation of a servant for barley bread." This was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (3/164/1) from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muslim ibn Hormuz from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I say: This isnād is weak; Ibn Hormuz is weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." There is another route narrated by Muslim al-Aʿwar from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr with it, except for the phrase: "for barley bread." It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh in "Akhlaq al-Nabī ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam" (p. 63) and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (4/3/1). And this Muslim - he is Ibn Kaysān al-Aʿwar - is also weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." From his route, it was recorded by al-Tirmidhī in "al-Shamāʾil" (p. 190) from Anas without mentioning Saʿīd among them, and it is a narration for Abū al-Shaykh (p. 62) with the wording: "He would visit the sick, ride a donkey, and respond to the invitation of a servant..." It was also recorded by Ibn Saʿd (1/371), Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (7/312), and al-Ḥākim (4/119) who authenticated it, but al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I say: Muslim was abandoned." However, the ḥadīth came through other routes: 1 - from Anas ibn Mālik who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would sit on the ground, eat on the ground, respond to the invitation of a servant, and say: If I were invited to a foreleg, I would respond, and if I were gifted a trotter, I would accept, and he would tie up his sheep."
