- "When something about a man reached him, he would not say: 'What is wrong with so-and-so saying this?' but would instead say: 'What is wrong with some people saying such and such?'" It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/288 - Tāzīyah) and from him by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Dalāʾil" (1/237) from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Ḥammānī, who narrated to us from al-Aʿmash, from Muslim, from Masrūq, from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) who said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād consists of reliable narrators according to the standards of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except that al-Ḥammānī, whose father's name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, was described by al-Ḥāfiẓ as "truthful but makes mistakes." However, Abū Muʿāwiyah followed him, narrating from al-Aʿmash with the wording: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) permitted something, but some people refrained from it. This reached the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he became angry until the anger was visible on his face. Then he said: 'What is wrong with some people who refrain from what I have permitted? By Allāh, I am the most knowledgeable of them about Allāh and the most fearful of Him.'" It was recorded by Muslim (7/90) and Aḥmad (6/45). Then it was also recorded by Aḥmad (6/181) and Muslim through other chains from al-Aʿmash with similar wording. Al-Mundhirī said in "Mukhtaṣar al-Sunan" (7/168/4620): "And it was recorded by al-Nasāʾī with its meaning." I say: Let it be examined whether it means something other than what was recorded by Muslim and Aḥmad, and whether it refers to al-Nasāʾī in "al-Ṣughrā" or "al-Kubrā"? It appears to be "al-Kubrā." Then it became clear from "al-Tuḥfah" that it is in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (number 234), which supports what I inferred, as "ʿAmal" is from "al-Sunan al-Kubrā."
- "كان إذا بلغه عن الرجل شيء لم يقل: (ما بال فلان يقول)، ولكن يقول: (ما بال أقوام يقولون كذا وكذا؟ !)". أخرجه أبو داود (٢ / ٢٨٨ - تازية) وعنه البيهقي في "الدلائل" (١ / ٢٣٧) عن عبد الحميد الحماني حدثنا الأعمش عن مسلم عن مسروق عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: فذكره. قلت: وهذا إسناد رجاله ثقات رجال الشيخين غير أن الحماني واسم أبيه عبد الرحمن، قال الحافظ: "صدوق يخطىء". لكن تابعه أبو معاوية عن الأعمش بلفظ: "رخص رسول الله ﷺ في أمر، فتنزه عنه ناس من الناس، فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ، فغضب حتى بان الغضب في وجهه، ثم قال: ما بال أقوام يرغبون عما رخص لي فيه؟ ! فوالله لأنا أعلمهم بالله وأشدهم له خشية". أخرجه مسلم (٧ / ٩٠) وأحمد (٦ / ٤٥). ثم أخرجه أحمد (٦ / ١٨١) ومسلم من طرق أخرى عن الأعمش به نحوه. والحديث قال المنذري في "مختصر السنن" (٧ / ١٦٨ / ٤٦٢٠): "وأخرجه النسائي بمعناه". قلت: فلينظر هل يعني غير ما خرجه مسلم وأحمد، وهل يعني النسائي في "الصغرى" أم في "الكبرى"؟ والظاهر الكبرى. ثم تبين من "التحفة" أنه في "عمل اليوم والليلة" (رقم ٢٣٤) وهو يؤيد ما استظهرته، فإن "العمل" من "السنن الكبرى".
