from Ṣuhayb from Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: "Al-Ḥakam saw me—al-Nuʿmān said: I think it was al-Ghifārī—while I was eating as a boy, from here and there, and he said: O my son! Do not eat like this, for this is how Satan eats. Indeed, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he placed his hand in the dish or the vessel, his fingers would not go beyond the place of his palm." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (1/155/1). Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (5/27): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is al-Nuʿmān ibn Shibl, who is weak." I say: Rather, he is in a worse condition than that, for Mūsá ibn Hārūn said: "He was accused," and al-Dhahabī narrated a fabricated ḥadīth from him. And ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm ibn Ṣuhayb, Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (3/1/35): "He heard from Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Ḥakam. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhzūmī narrated from him." And he did not mention any criticism or commendation about him. It appears that he is the same ʿAbd al-Ḥakam mentioned in the previous narration of Abū Rajāʾ, but there was a typographical error by the scribe or printer, dropping the letter (yāʾ), except that I do not know this Abū Rajāʾ. Nevertheless, the heart inclines towards strengthening the ḥadīth with the combination of both chains, and it was narrated by Khālid ibn Ismāʿīl from Ayyūb ibn Salamah, who said: Hishām ibn ʿUrwah narrated to us with his previous isnād from ʿĀʾishah similarly, and added: "When dates were brought, his hand would roam." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (p. 160). But this Khālid is a liar, so his corroboration is not to be rejoiced over.
