Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī said: so he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī. And Abū ʿAqīl's name is Zuhrah ibn Maʿbad. The ḥadīth was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-ʿIlal" (2/13) from the narration of Muḥammad ibn Muʿāwiyah al-Nīsābūrī - a resident of Mecca - from Layth ibn Saʿd from Zuhrah ibn Maʿbad with it, and he said: "Abū Zurʿah said: This is not from the ḥadīth of Layth ibn Saʿd. I said: This is from the ḥadīth of Ibn Wahb from Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb from Abū ʿAqīl Zuhrah ibn Maʿbad..." I said: This means that, and al-Nīsābūrī is abandoned, so he is not relied upon, especially with the contradiction.

"When he ate food, he would eat from what was in front of him." It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh in "Akhlaq al-Nabī ﷺ" (p. 206) from Abū Qutaybah, who informed us from a man from Banī Thawr, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād, all its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī, except for the Thawrī man whom I did not recognize, and it is possible that he is Sufyān ibn Saʿīd al-Thawrī, the famous imam, for Hishām ibn ʿUrwah is among his shaykhs. And he has with him (p. 207) a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Abū Rajāʾ: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar informed us, ʿAbd al-Ḥakam told me, he said: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar saw me when I was a boy, and I was eating from here and there, and he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he ate, his hand would not go beyond what was in front of him." And al-Nuʿmān ibn Shibl al-Bāhilī contradicted him: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhzūmī informed us from ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm
