- "The major sins: associating partners with Allāh, despairing of the spirit of Allāh, and losing hope in the mercy of Allāh." It was narrated by al-Bazzār in his "Musnad" (p. 18 - its additions): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Isḥāq al-ʿAṭṭār narrated to us, al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Mukhallad narrated to us, Shabīb ibn Bishr narrated from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās: "A man said: O Messenger of Allāh! What are the major sins? He said: associating partners..." I said: This isnād is good except that I did not recognize this al-ʿAṭṭār, but perhaps others before me knew him or found a corroborator for him, as al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (1/104): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī, and the men are trustworthy." Al-Munāwī said: "The compiler indicated its goodness, and al-Zayn al-ʿIrāqī said in 'Sharḥ al-Tirmidhī': Its isnād is good." I said: We did not find it in "Muʿjam al-Ṭabarānī al-Kabīr" from this perspective, and with this wording as elevated, but it was narrated as stopped at Ibn ʿAbbās in a long ḥadīth of his, where he said (3/187/1): Bakr ibn Sahl narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ informed us, Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Ibn ʿAbbās with a similar meaning. And this isnād is weak. It has a supporting narration that is stopped, narrated by Maʿmar from Abū Isḥāq from Wabarah from ʿĀmir Abū al-Ṭufayl from Ibn Masʿūd with it. And Musʿar followed him from Wabarah with it. And this isnād is authentic as al-Haythamī said. ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd followed him from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbd Allāh with it. I said: And this isnād is good. Al-Ṭabarānī included all of them in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (3/13/1)
