These are also sound three-narrator chains, and Ibn Abī ʿAdī added after their saying "in the pre-Islamic period": "and he was pleased with that," which is found in al-Nasāʾī (1/290) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh—who is Ibn al-Mubārak—from Ḥumayd with the wording: "and he was delighted with that." Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd explicitly stated that Ḥumayd narrated it from Anas. Thābit also corroborated him, as recorded by Aḥmad (3/153, 175, 284) through the route of Ḥammād who said: Thābit and Ḥumayd informed us from Anas with it and added: "and he was on a gray mule, and there was a grave being punished (in another narration: he heard the voices of people being punished in their graves), so the mule shied away, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: If it were not for... " the ḥadīth. Its chain is sound according to the criteria of Muslim. Qāsim ibn Murthad al-Raḥḥāl also corroborated him, and Aḥmad said (3/111): Sufyān narrated to us, saying: Qāsim al-Raḥḥāl heard Anas say: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) entered a ruin of the Banū al-Najjār, and he was relieving himself there, then he came out to us alarmed or frightened and said: If it were not for... " the ḥadīth, and it includes the two additions. This is also a sound three-narrator chain, as Sufyān is Ibn ʿUyaynah, one of the narrators of the six [canonical collections], and Qāsim was deemed reliable by Ibn Maʿīn and others. Qatādah also corroborated him from Anas, but only the elevated part, excluding the story, as recorded by Muslim (8/161) and Aḥmad (3/176 and 273)
