then I saw that al-Dhahabī mentioned from Ibn al-Qaṭṭān that he said: "it implies that his report is ḥasan, not ṣaḥīḥ." All praise is due to Allāh for His guidance. The others only have the elevated [part] of the narration, and al-Tirmidhī said: "a ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb from this perspective." Aḥmad narrated it (4/23) in a shortened form with the wording: "It is not the elongated dawn on the horizon but the horizontal red one." ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Nuʿmān was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Maʿīn, al-ʿAjlī, and Ibn Ḥibbān, and two trustworthy narrators reported from him. Ibn Khuzaymah said: "I do not know him to be just or criticized." I say: his condition is similar to that of his teacher Qays ibn Ṭalq, but he has been followed up, as ʿAbd Allāh ibn Badr al-Suhaymī said: My grandfather Qays ibn Ṭalq narrated it to me. It was extracted by al-Ṭaḥāwī (1/325). In summary, the ḥadīth is ḥasan. It has a corroborating report from the ḥadīth of Samurah ibn Jundub, elevated in a similar manner. Another one was mentioned earlier under number (2002). It was narrated by Muslim and others and is included in "al-Irwāʾ" (915) and "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (2031). His statement: (and do not be disturbed): meaning, do not be alarmed by the elongated dawn and refrain from suḥūr because of it, for it is the false dawn. The root of (al-hayd) is movement. "Nihāyah." And know that there is no contradiction between his description (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) of the true dawn's light as (red) and His description, the Exalted
ثم رأيت الذهبي قد ذكر عن ابن القطان أنه قال: " يقتضي أن يكون خبره حسنا لا صحيحا ". فالحمد لله على توفيقه. وليس عند الآخرين من السياق إلا المرفوع منه، وقال الترمذي: " حديث حسن غريب من هذا الوجه ". ورواه أحمد (٤ / ٢٣) مختصرا بلفظ: " ليس الفجر المستطيل في الأفق ولكنه المعترض الأحمر ". وعبد الله بن النعمان، وثقه ابن معين والعجلي وابن حبان وقد روى عنه ثقتان، وقال ابن خزيمة: " لا أعرفه بعدالة ولا جرح ". قلت: فحاله قريب من حال شيخه قيس بن طلق لكنه قد توبع، فقال عبد الله بن بدر السحيمي: حدثني جدي قيس بن طلق به. أخرجه الطحاوي (١ / ٣٢٥). وجملة القول أن الحديث حسن. وله شاهد من حديث سمرة بن جندب مرفوعا نحوه. وآخر تقدم برقم (٢٠٠٢). رواه مسلم وغيره وهو مخرج في " الإرواء " (٩١٥) و " صحيح أبي داود " (٢٠٣١). قوله: (ولا يهيدنكم): أي: لا تنزعجوا للفجر المستطيل فتمتنعوا به عن السحور، فإنه الصبح الكاذب. وأصل (الهيد): الحركة. " نهاية ". واعلم أنه لا منافاة بين وصفه ﷺ لضوء الفجر الصادق بـ (الأحمر) ووصفه تعالى
