(Gharīb al-Ḥadīth): his saying: (wadakā): it is the fat and oil of the meat that is extracted from it. (safsafahā): in "al-Qāmūs": "al-safsāf: the inferior of everything." So perhaps what is meant is mixing it with something inferior from wheat or flour. (labqahā): in "al-Nihāyah": meaning he mixed it thoroughly, and it was said: he gathered it with a ladle. (ṣaʿnabahā): meaning he raised its head and made a peak for it and gathered its sides.

- "Eat and drink, and do not be deterred by the rising dawn, so eat and drink until the redness appears before you." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (1/369-370), al-Tirmidhī (705), Ibn Khuzaymah (1930), and al-Dāraqutnī (p. 231) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Nuʿmān al-Suhaymī who said: "Qays ibn Ṭalq came to me in Ramaḍān at the end of the night after I had lifted my hand from the pre-dawn meal out of fear of dawn, and he asked me for some condiment. I said to him: 'O my uncle! If there was still some night left, I would have brought you food and drink.' He said: 'Do you have some?' So he entered, and I brought him a dish of bread, meat, and nabīdh, and he ate and drank and compelled me, so I ate and drank, though I was anxious about the dawn. Then he said Ṭalq ibn ʿAlī told me that the Prophet of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'He mentioned it,' and the context is from al-Dāraqutnī, who said: 'Qays ibn Ṭalq is not strong.'"
