It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/490). I said: Its isnād is good, all its narrators are trustworthy. Although Ibn Lahīʿah was known for poor memory, his ḥadīth from the narration of the ʿAbādilah is authentic, as is well known among the scholars, and this is from the narration of one of them, who is ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, the imām. This fact was overlooked by al-Munāwī when he criticized the ḥadīth by saying: "And it includes Ibn Lahīʿah!" He erred once more, as he said this following al-Suyūṭī's attribution of the ḥadīth to Ibn Mājah, implying that it was narrated through Ibn Lahīʿah, which is contrary to reality, as Ibn Lahīʿah is not in its isnād as I have seen. The ḥadīth has a third chain, narrated by Khālid ibn Yazīd ibn Abī Mālik from his father, who reported it from Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, who was among the people of the Ṣuffah... the ḥadīth in its entirety and more complete, and it includes the basmalah. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/116-117) who said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I said: Khālid is trustworthy according to some, but al-Nasāʾī said: he is not trustworthy." I said: In "Taqrīb": "He is weak despite being a jurist, and Ibn Maʿīn accused him." I said: Thus, reliance is on the previous chain. The ḥadīth has supporting evidence narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "Indeed, the blessing descends in the middle of the dish, so eat from its edges and do not eat from its center." It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/55) and others with an authentic isnād, and it is included in "al-Mishkāt" (4211)
