...each other's necks. Then a man was insulting someone, so I said: By Allāh, if Allāh enables me to reach you in a battalion... When the day of Ṣiffīn came, I saw him wearing armor. I noticed an opening in the side of the armor, so I struck him and killed him, and it turned out to be ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir! He said: I said: What hands have sufficed him, disliking to drink from a silver vessel while having killed ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir?! I said: Its isnād is also authentic. The ḥadīth was narrated by al-Ḥasan ibn Dīnār from Kulthūm ibn Jabr al-Murādī from Abū al-Ghādiyah who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Ibn ʿAdī (85/1) and Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-ʿIlal" (2/421). I said: This is one of the confusions of al-Ḥasan ibn Dīnār, for the ḥadīth is not from the narration of Abū al-Ghādiyah from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam); between them is ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ as in the previous narration.

"Indeed, Allāh, the Exalted, says: If I test a servant of Mine who is a believer, and he praises Me and is patient with what I have tested him with, he will rise from that resting place as free from sins as the day his mother bore him. And the Lord says to the angels: Verily, I have restrained this servant of Mine and tested him, so record for him the reward you used to record for him before that when he was healthy."
