and this is a weak chain of transmission. Fourth: from Ibn ʿAbbās, elevated [to the Prophet], similar to it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" with a weak chain of transmission.
وهذا سند ضعيف. الرابع: عن ابن عباس مرفوعا نحوه. أخرجه الطبراني في " الأوسط " بسند ضعيف.
"Backbiting is to mention about a person what he dislikes to hear." It was recorded by Mālik in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (3/150 - al-Ḥalabī edition) from al-Walīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh Ṣayyād that al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ḥanṭab al-Makhzūmī informed him: "that a man asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): What is backbiting? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: You mention... He said: O Messenger of Allāh, even if it is true? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: If you say falsehood, then that is slander." It was also recorded by Ibn al-Mubārak in "al-Zuhd" (704) from Mālik with a similar narration. I say: And this is a mursal chain of transmission. Al-Muṭṭalib, this one, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taʿjīl": "He was frequent in sending [narrations] and his hearing from Abū Hurayrah was not authenticated, so perhaps he took from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaʿqūb." Al-Ḥāfiẓ also provided a biography for al-Walīd, from which it is understood that he has no narrator except Mālik, and that Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in the third category of "al-Thiqāt". Al-Suyūṭī mentioned in the introduction of "Isʿāf al-Mubṭī bi-Rijāl al-Muwaṭṭaʾ": that all of Mālik's teachers are trustworthy, so it is a mursal with a sound chain of transmission, and it is supported by the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, elevated [to the Prophet] with its meaning, and I have extracted it in "Ghāyat al-Marām fī Takhrīj al-Ḥalāl wa-al-Ḥarām" (426). The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Suyūṭī in "Zawāʾid al-Jāmiʿ" from the narration of al-Kharāʾiṭī in "Masāwī al-Akhlāq" from al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥanṭab, elevated [to the Prophet] with the wording: "with what is behind him" with a fāʾ, meaning behind his back without his knowledge
" الغيبة أن تذكر من المرء ما يكره أن يسمع ". أخرجه مالك في " الموطأ " (٣ / ١٥٠ - طبعة الحلبي) عن الوليد بن عبد الله صياد أن المطلب بن عبد الملك بن حنطب المخزومي أخبره: " أن رجلا سأل رسول الله ﷺ: ما الغيبة؟ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أنتذكر.... قال: يا رسول الله وإن كان حقا؟ قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا قلت باطلا فذلك البهتان ". وأخرجه ابن المبارك في " الزهد " (٧٠٤) عن مالك به نحوه. قلت: وهذا إسناد مرسل المطلب هذا قال الحافظ في " التعجيل ": " كان كثير الإرسال ولم يصح سماعه من أبي هريرة، فلعله أخذ عن عبد الرحمن ابن يعقوب ". وترجم الحافظ للوليد بما يستفاد منه أنه ليس له راو سوى مالك، وأن ابن حبان ذكره في الطبقة الثالثة من " الثقات ". وقد ذكر السيوطي في مقدمة " إسعاف المبطي برجال الموطأ ": أن شيوخ مالك كلهم ثقات، فهو مرسل صحيح الإسناد ويشهد له حديث أبي هريرة مرفوعا بمعناه وقد خرجته في " غاية المرام في تخريج الحلال والحرام " (٤٢٦). والحديث أورده السيوطي في " زوائد الجامع " من رواية الخرائطي في " مساوي الأخلاق " عن المطلب بن عبد الله بن حنطب مرفوعا بلفظ: " بما فيه من خلفة " بالفاء، أي من ورائه دون علمه.
