I said: it is weak. Ibn ʿAdī said: "He is among those whose ḥadīth is written." Abū Ḥātim said: "Weak in ḥadīth, his ḥadīth is rejected." Al-Sājī said: "He has rejected narrations." As for Ibn Maʿīn, he said: "There is no harm in him." He also said once: "Trustworthy." I said: in any case, he is not very weak, so his ḥadīth can be strengthened by corroborative reports and witnesses. I have found many witnesses for him from a group of Companions: The first: from Anas ibn Mālik, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "A mudd is sufficient for ablution, and a ṣāʿ is sufficient for ghusl." It was recorded by Abū ʿAwānah in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/233) from Muʿāwiyah ibn Hishām, who reported from Sufyān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jabr, who said: I heard Anas with it. This isnād is good and meets the criteria of Muslim. The second: from Jābir, raised [to the Prophet]. "A mudd suffices for ablution, and a ṣāʿ for janābah." It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī (1/195) from Ḥuṣayn and Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, and by Aḥmad (3/370) from Yazīd alone—both from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd from him. The isnād of al-Bayhaqī is authentic. The third: from ʿAlī, raised [to the Prophet] similarly.
