- "O Allāh, make him a guide and guided, and guide him and guide through him." This refers to Muʿāwiyah. It was recorded by al-Tarqafī in "His Ḥadīth" (p. 45/1): Abū Masher narrated to us, Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿUmayrah al-Muzanī—Saʿīd said: He was one of the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)—from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said about Muʿāwiyah... and he mentioned it. From this chain, it was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (4/1/327), al-Tirmidhī (2/316 - Būlāq), and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (2/133/1 and 16/243/2), and al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and rare ḥadīth." And I say: All its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, so it deserved to be authenticated. Perhaps al-Tirmidhī only deemed it good because Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz had become confused before his death, as Abū Masher and Ibn Maʿīn said. However, it appears that Abū Masher received this ḥadīth from him before his confusion, otherwise, he would not have narrated it from him if he had heard it during his confusion, especially since Abū Ḥātim said: "Abū Masher used to prefer Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz over al-Awzāʿī." I said: Do you think he would prefer him over Imām al-Awzāʿī while narrating from him during his confusion?! And a group followed him: 1 - Ibn Muḥammad al-Dimashqī narrated: Saʿīd informed us, Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd informed us, I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿUmayrah al-Muzanī say: I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say about Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" and Ibn ʿAsākir. 2 - Al-Walīd ibn Muslim, alongside Muḥammad ibn Marwān—and perhaps it is Marwān ibn Muḥammad—said: They informed us
