It was also recorded by Aḥmad (1/338): Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated it with this chain. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and they have both recorded it through other chains from al-Aʿmash with similar wording: "your mother." However, al-Bukhārī mentioned it in a suspended form, saying: "It is mentioned from Abū Khālid, who is 'al-Aḥmar': al-Aʿmash narrated to us from al-Ḥakam, Muslim al-Baṭīn, and Salamah ibn Kuhayl from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, ʿAṭāʾ, and Mujāhid from Ibn ʿAbbās: A woman said to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): 'My sister died.'" Muslim connected it (3/156) but did not provide its wording, and others like al-Nasāʾī in "al-Kubrā" (4/42/2) from this route, and al-Tirmidhī (1/138 - Būlāq) said: "ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ" and he and al-Nasāʾī said: "fasting two consecutive months." The ḥadīth is among the meanings of his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: "Whoever dies and has fasting due, his guardian fasts on his behalf." It is agreed upon from the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah because the guardian is more general than being a son or a sister, and it is also applied to the fasting of vows as Ibn al-Qayyim verified in some of his books, and perhaps it is "Tahdhīb al-Sunan," so it should be reviewed.
