"Rāshid ibn ʿAbd Rabbih was not mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in his book." I said: Likewise, his son al-Ḥasan ibn Rāshid, and I did not find anyone else who mentioned them. Despite that, Ibn Ḥajar al-Haythamī authenticated it in "Asnā al-Maṭālib fī Ṣilat al-Aqārib" (p. 25/1), perhaps due to the supporting evidence that follows. Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (10/229): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ', and it includes those whom I do not know." The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" from the narration of Abū Muḥammad al-Ibrāhīmī in "Kitāb al-Ṣalāh" and Ibn al-Najjār from Ibn ʿUmar. He did not add more. This is a gross shortcoming as will become clear to you from our analysis of this. Then the ḥadīth is ḥasan or ṣaḥīḥ in my view, as it has supporting evidence that strengthens it. I will mention what I can of them: the first is from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Rely on despair regarding what is in people's hands..." the ḥadīth. It includes a sentence for which I found no supporting evidence, so I included it for that reason in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" under number (3881), and I analyzed it there. The second is from Saʿd ibn ʿAmārah, the brother of Saʿd ibn Bakr - who was a Companion - that a man said to him: "Advise me regarding myself, may Allāh have mercy on you." He said: "When you stand for prayer, perfect the ablution, for there is no prayer for one who does not have ablution, and no faith for one who does not pray." Then he said: "When you pray, pray as if bidding farewell, and avoid seeking many needs, for it is present poverty. Gather despair regarding what is in people's hands, for it is wealth, and avoid what you would apologize for in speech and action."
