and it was also narrated by al-Bukhārī in a similar manner.

- "Every person's fate is tied around his neck." It was narrated by Aḥmad (3/342, 349, and 360) through various chains from Ibn Lahīʿah, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it. Ibn Lahīʿah said: it means omens. I say: This isnād is weak due to the poor memory of Ibn Lahīʿah and the ʿanʿanah of Abū al-Zubayr. However, it has been corroborated, as it was narrated by Ibn Jarīr in "al-Tafsīr" (15/39) through the route of Qatādah from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh with it being raised with the wording: "There is no contagion and no omen * (and every person We have fastened his fate to his neck) *." I say: Its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, but Qatādah did not hear from Jābir and his narration from him is a document. Aḥmad said: "A document of Jābir was read to him once and he memorized it." Perhaps one of the two isnāds strengthens the other, and the ḥadīth is authentic in any case, as it is derived from His saying in Sūrah al-Isrāʾ: * (And every person We have fastened his fate to his neck, and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open) *. Ibn Jarīr said: "The mention of Allāh says: And every person We have fastened what has been decreed for him that he will do, and it is what he will reach from misery or happiness, he carries it around his neck and it does not leave him. His saying: * (We have fastened his fate) * is a metaphor for what the Arabs used to take as omens or seek bad omens from the flight of birds, so He informed them, glorified be His praise, that every one of them has been fastened by his Lord with his fate around his neck, whether it is an evil fate that leads him to the blaze or a good fate that leads him to the Gardens of Eden."
