al-Ṭabarānī) narrated to us ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, narrated to us Abū Nuʿaym, narrated to us Sufyān with it without the addition. Therefore, Abū Nuʿaym said afterward: "ʿIṣām ibn Yazīd narrated it: Jabr, so he connected it." Then he provided it with two chains from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Mandah, narrated to us Muḥammad ibn ʿIṣām ibn Yazīd from his father from Sufyān from Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī from someone who narrated to him from ʿAlī who said: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was informed about something regarding a relative of Umm Ibrāhīm, so he handed me the sword and said: Go and kill him. I reached him, and he was atop a palm tree. When he saw me, he recognized me, fell, and threw off his garment, revealing that he was impotent, so I refrained from him, and he said: You did well." And he said: "Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq perfected it and named him." Then he presented it here in a summarized form and in (3/177-178) in its entirety from the path of Yūnus ibn Bukayr from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq from Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥanafiyyah from his father from his grandfather ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allāh honor his face, who said: "There was much talk about Māriyah, the mother of Ibrāhīm, the son of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), regarding a Copt - her cousin - who used to visit her frequently. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to me: Take this sword and go to him, and if you find him with her, kill him. I said: O Messenger of Allāh, should I be like a heated iron sent by you, not deterred by anything until I fulfill what you sent me for, or should the present witness what the absent does not see? He said: (and he mentioned it), so I went with the sword girded and found him with her. I drew the sword, and when I approached him, he realized I intended him, so he went to a palm tree and climbed it, then threw himself on his back, and kicked his legs, revealing that he was impotent, having neither the attributes of men in small or large measure. So I sheathed my sword and went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and informed him, and he said: Praise be to Allāh who averts from us, the family, [such matters]." And he said: "This is strange, not known as a musnad in this context except from the narration of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq."
