It was recorded by Tamām in "al-Fawāʾid" (p. 172/1-2), Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (4/99/1 and 8/37/1), and likewise Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī in "al-Ghaylāniyyāt" as mentioned in "al-Laʾāliʾ al-Maṣnūʿah" (2/29). I said: The first is more authentic, for I did not find a biography for this Ibrāhīm. Ḥubaysh was mentioned by Ibn ʿAsākir, and he did not mention anything about him except this ḥadīth. The ḥadīth was cited by Ibn al-Jawzī in "al-Mawḍūʿāt" from the narration of al-ʿUqaylī, and he criticized it with what I quoted from al-ʿUqaylī earlier. Al-Suyūṭī followed up by saying it has supporting evidence. Then he presented them, and they are three: the first is mawqūf, the second from Samurah ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (!) who said: It was said... and he mentioned it. The third from al-Ḥasan is maqṭūʿ! So al-Suyūṭī did not achieve anything. However, the ḥadīth has elevated supporting evidence that raises it to the level of ḥasan, Allāh willing, and its sources have been previously mentioned under ḥadīth number (831).
- "The witness sees what the absent does not see." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/83) and from him by al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/248) and al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (1/1/177) from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Sufyān who narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib from ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: I said: O Messenger of Allāh, if you send me, should I be like the heated iron, or does the witness see what the absent does not see? He said: and he mentioned it. Abū Nuʿaym disagreed, saying: Sufyān narrated it to us except that he added: "from his father from ʿAlī." It was recorded by al-Ḍiyāʾ (1/233) who said: "It was narrated by Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh in his 'Musnad' from Abū Nuʿaym." However, Abū Nuʿaym recorded it in "al-Ḥilyah" (7/92): Sulaimān ibn Aḥmad narrated to us (he is
