it was mentioned in the presence of Abū ʿAnbah al-Khawlānī about the martyrs, and they mentioned the one who dies of a stomach illness, the one who dies of plague, and the woman who dies in childbirth. Abū ʿAnbah became angry and said: Our Prophet's Companions narrated to us from our Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is good; its men are trustworthy and well-known, except for Abū ʿAnbah al-Khawlānī. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/2/418-419): "He does not have companionship, and he is from the first generation of the Tābiʿīn of the people of Shām." Then he mentioned that a group of trustworthy narrators, other than al-Alhānī, narrated from him. However, others mentioned him among the Companions, and al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Iṣābah" favored the statement of Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsá: "He witnessed the pre-Islamic era and lived until the caliphate of ʿAbd al-Malik, and he was among those who embraced Islam at the hands of Muʿādh while the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was alive."
"The honor of a believer is his prayer at night, and his dignity is his independence from what is in the hands of people." It was narrated by al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (p. 127): Yaḥyá ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ told us, he said: Dāwūd ibn ʿUthmān al-Thaghrī told us, he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAmr al-Awzāʿī narrated from Abū Muʿādh from Abū Hurayrah in a marfūʿ manner. And he said: "Dāwūd narrated from al-Awzāʿī and others falsehoods." Then he presented this ḥadīth for him, and then said: "This is narrated from al-Ḥasan and others as their statement, and it has no authentic chain." From this perspective, it was also narrated by Abū Muḥammad al-Ḍarrāb in "Dhamm al-Riyāʾ" (292-293). Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik disagreed with them and said: Yaḥyá ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ told us, he said: Abū al-Minhāl Ḥubaysh ibn ʿUmar al-Dimashqī told me—and he mentioned to me that he used to cook for al-Mahdī—he said: Abū ʿAmr al-Awzāʿī narrated it to me
