"The standing of a man in the path of Allāh for an hour is better than worship for sixty years." Narrated by al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (p. 30) and al-Khaṭīb in "al-Tārīkh" (10/295) from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Salmān al-Makkī who said: al-Ḥasan narrated to us from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn in a marfūʿ manner and said: "This ḥadīth is not preserved." It was mentioned in the biography of this Ismāʿīl, and al-Dhahabī said: "He is unknown." I say: However, he was not alone in narrating it as its extraction was previously mentioned under ḥadīth (899) and we mentioned there a supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah. Refer to it if you wish to understand the importance of tracing the paths of the ḥadīth and its supporting narrations, and that merely having a ḥadīth with a weak isnād does not necessarily mean the ḥadīth itself is weak and not preserved. Reflect on this, for it is a slippery slope. Therefore, I have strived as much as possible in all my books, especially this series, not to weaken a ḥadīth except after thorough research into its paths and supporting narrations. By doing so, I have been able to rescue dozens, even hundreds, of ḥadīths from weakness. Allāh, the Exalted, is the ultimate goal, and I ask Him to protect me from error. Among those books was "Ghayat al-Maram fī Takhrīj Aḥādīth al-Ḥalāl wa-al-Ḥarām," and I specified my mentioned methodology in its introduction. It has been printed and has found its way to spread among the Muslim youth. All praise and gratitude is due to Allāh, and I have done likewise in "Mukhtaṣar al-Shamāʾil al-Muḥammadiyyah by al-Tirmidhī," and it will be printed, Allāh willing.
