It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (1/23): Yazīd ibn Hārūn and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr informed us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid informed us from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim: "that a man came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), stood before him, and was seized by trembling out of fear. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: " and he mentioned it. I said: This is an authentic mursal isnād. Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn connected it, narrating from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from Abū Masʿūd, and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (3312) and Muḥammad ibn Makhlad al-ʿAṭṭār in "al-Muntaqá min Ḥadīthih" (2/15/2) and al-Ḥākim (3/47-48) from Ismāʿīl ibn Asad, who said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim." al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: Ismāʿīl ibn Asad was not recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, but he is trustworthy. However, the mursal is more authentic. ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwām disagreed with them, saying: from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: and he mentioned it, adding at the end: "in this plain, he said: Then Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Bajali recited: * (And you are not a tyrant over them. So remind with the Qurʾān whoever fears My threat) *."
