three reliable narrators, as mentioned earlier, so there are two isnāds for Nāfiʿ from Umm Salamah. However, Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr disagreed, saying: from Nāfiʿ from Umm Salamah with it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī. This is anomalous and contradicts the narration of the group. There is another route for the ḥadīth from Umm al-Ḥasan from Umm Salamah: "that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) measured a span from Fāṭimah's waistband." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3/47 - Tuḥfah) and Abū Yaʿlá (Q 315/1) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿAlī ibn Zayd from Umm al-Ḥasan. Al-Tirmidhī said: "Some of them narrated it from Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿAlī ibn Zayd from al-Ḥasan from his mother from Umm Salamah." I said: ʿAlī ibn Zayd is Ibn Judʿān, and he is weak. A group narrated it from Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Abū al-Muhzam from Abū Hurayrah: "that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to Fāṭimah or Umm Salamah: 'Your train should be an arm's length.'" It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/373) and Aḥmad (2/263 and 416). Ḥabīb the teacher disagreed, saying: from Abū al-Muhzam from Abū Hurayrah from ʿĀʾishah with it. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah and Aḥmad (6/75 and 123). Abū al-Muhzam is abandoned. There is supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar: "that the wives of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) were permitted to have their trains an arm's length, so they would come to us, and we would measure for them an arm's length with reeds."
