"I was written as a prophet while Adam was between the spirit and the body." It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (5/59) and in "al-Sunnah" (p. 111): ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, Mansūr ibn Saʿd narrated to us from Badīl from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq from Maysarah al-Fajr who said: "I asked: O Messenger of Allāh, when were you written as a prophet? He said: While Adam was..." It was also recorded by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Sunnah" (no. 410 in my verification) and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (9/53) through another chain from Ibn Mahdī, but in "al-Ḥilyah" it appears as: "I was." The narration of Aḥmad and Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim is more likely. Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān followed him from Badīl from Maysarah with the wording of "al-Ḥilyah." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (4/1/374) and Ibn Saʿd (7/60). Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ followed him from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq from a man who said: "I asked..." the ḥadīth. It was recorded by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (411): Hudbah ibn Khālid narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from Khālid with it. And it was recorded by Ibn Saʿd (1/148 and 7/59): ʿAffān ibn Muslim and ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim al-Kilābī informed us, they said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us with it. However, they named the man "Ibn Abī al-Jadʿāʾ," and the first is closer to being correct, as Ibn Saʿd also said: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUlayyah informed us from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ with it similar to the narration of Hudbah. So Ibn ʿUlayyah agreed with Ḥammād ibn Salamah in Hudbah's narration from him on not naming the man, which is preserved from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, and the ambiguous man is clarified by Badīl's narration that it is Maysarah al-Fajr, and its chain is authentic
