"The best of my nation is the generation in which I was sent, then those who follow them, then those who follow them—and Allāh knows best whether I mentioned the third or not—then there will appear people who testify without being asked, make vows and do not fulfill them, betray and are not trusted, and obesity will spread among them." It was recorded by Muslim (7/186), Abū Dāwūd (2/265), al-Ṭayālisī (p. 114, no. 852), and Aḥmad (4/426 and 440) from Qatādah from Zurārah ibn Abī Awfá from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. It was also recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/35) from this chain and he said: "It is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ." It has other chains; it was recorded by al-Bukhārī (7/4-6 and 5/197-198 and 11/491), as well as Muslim (7/185-186), al-Nasāʾī (2/143), al-Ṭayālisī (p. 113, no. 841), and Aḥmad (4/427 and 436) from Shuʿbah, who heard Abū Jamrah narrate to me from Zahdam ibn Muḍarrib from ʿImrān with it. Some of them said: "The best of you is my generation, etc..." It has another chain with the wording: The best of people. It will come, if Allāh wills. It has a supporting narration with the wording: "The best of my nation is my generation, then those who follow them—and I do not know whether I mentioned the third or not—then there will remain people among whom obesity will appear, they will spill testimony without being asked for it."

It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/350): Ismāʿīl narrated to us from al-Jarīrī from Abū Naḍrah from ʿAbdullāh ibn Mūlah who said: While I was traveling in Ahwāz, I saw a man riding in front of me on a mule or donkey, and he was saying: O Allāh, my generation from this nation has passed, so join me with them. I said: And I too, include me in your supplication. He said: And this companion of mine if he wishes. Then he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. He said: And it was Buraydah al-Aslamī. Then he narrated it (5/357) from the path of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from al-Jarīrī with it from ʿAbdullāh ibn Mūlah who said:
