I was traveling with Buraydah al-Aslamī, and he said: then he mentioned the elevated ḥadīth, except that he said: "then those who follow them, three times." In another narration: "four times," and perhaps it is an error from Ibn Salamah, for he had some of that. The isnād of the ḥadīth consists of all reliable narrators, the men of Muslim, except for ʿAbdullāh ibn Mūlah with fathahs as in "al-Taqrīb" and in "al-Khulāṣah": with ḍammah on the first and fathah on the wāw and lām. Ibn Ḥibbān declared him trustworthy, and no one narrated from him except Abū Naḍrah as al-Dhahabī said, so he is unknown, and in al-Taqrīb: "accepted." Thus, the ḥadīth is ḥasan due to other evidence, as it has supporting witnesses from what has preceded. ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) said: A man asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): Which people are best? He said: "The generation I am in, then the second, then the third." It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/156): Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī narrated to us from Zāʾidah from al-Suddī from ʿAbdullāh al-Bahī from her. This isnād is good, and it was also recorded by Muslim (7/186) from Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī with it. Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it from Saʿīd ibn Tamīm in a similar manner, and in it, he is the one asking, and after the third generation, he added: I said: Then what, O Messenger of Allāh? He said: "Then there will be people who swear oaths without being asked to swear, and they testify without being asked to testify, and they are entrusted but do not fulfill." Al-Haythamī said (10/19): "And its narrators are trustworthy."
