al-Muʿtamir: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yasār from Ḥudhayfah with it. I said: This is a sound chain; all its narrators are reliable, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yasār, who is al-Juhanī al-Kūfī and he is trustworthy. Al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Ḥibbān declared him trustworthy, and al-Dhahabī said in "Mukhtaṣar al-Bayhaqī" (1/140/2): "Its chain is sound." He was followed by Rabiʿī ibn Ḥirāsh from Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān who said: "A man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: I saw in a dream that I met some of the People of the Book, and they said: You are a good people if only you did not say 'What Allāh wills and what Muḥammad wills.' The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: I used to dislike it from you, so say: 'What Allāh wills, then what Muḥammad wills.'" It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2118) and Aḥmad (5/393), and the context is his, from the path of Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr from him. This is an apparently sound chain, for all its narrators are reliable, except that there is a disagreement regarding Ibn ʿUmayr, as Sufyān narrated from him in this manner. And Maʿmar narrated from him from Jābir ibn Samurah who said: "A man from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw in a dream..." a similar ḥadīth. It was extracted by al-Ṭaḥāwī. And Shuʿbah narrated from him from Rabiʿī from al-Ṭufayl, the brother of ʿĀʾishah, who said: "A man from the polytheists said to a man from the Muslims: You are a good people..." the ḥadīth. It was extracted by al-Dārimī (2/295). And Abū ʿAwānah followed him from ʿAbd al-Malik with it. It was extracted by Ibn Mājah (2118/2)
