- "Three practices from the actions of the pre-Islamic era will not be abandoned by the people of Islam: wailing, seeking rain through the stars, and so on. I said to Saʿīd (meaning al-Maqburī): And what is it? He said: The claim of the pre-Islamic era: O family of so-and-so, O family of so-and-so, O family of so-and-so." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/262) from Rubaʿī ibn Ibrāhīm who narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq from Saʿīd from Abū Hurayrah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And from this chain, it was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (739), except that he said: "and mutual defamation" instead of "and so on..." And this ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq appears to be Abū Shaybah al-Wāsiṭī, and he is weak, while the rest of the narrators are trustworthy. However, there is another chain and supporting evidence. As for the chain, it is with Ibn Ḥibbān (740) from Abū ʿĀmir who narrated to us from Sufyān from Sulaymān from Dhakwān from Abū Hurayrah. He mentioned something similar, and included contagion, making them four. I said: And its chain is authentic, its narrators are trustworthy. It is supported by the ḥadīth of Junādah ibn Mālik as a marfūʿ ḥadīth with the wording: "Three practices from the actions of the pre-Islamic era will not be abandoned by the people of Islam: seeking rain through the stars..." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (1/2/233), al-Bazzār (number - 797), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (2178) through the chain of al-Qāsim ibn al-Walīd from Muṣʿab ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Junādah al-Azdī from his father from his grandfather as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And al-Bukhārī said: "There is a concern regarding its chain."
