It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (981) from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Sulaymān, the brother of Fulaḥ, who narrated from Abū Ḥāzim, who said: "Sahl ibn Saʿd al-Sāʿidī used to appoint the young men of his people to lead them in prayer. I said: Its narrators are trustworthy except for ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Sulaymān, who is weak. However, the ḥadīth is authentic, as the statement: "The leader is responsible" has been reported from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah and ʿĀʾishah, and both are recorded in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (530-531) and from the ḥadīth of Abū Umāmah with Aḥmad (5/260) with a good chain.
