therefore, its authenticity is questionable to me due to the absence of any evidence that would strengthen its weakness. It seems to be a narration by meaning for the other part of the ḥadīth: "O Allāh, befriend those who befriend him and oppose those who oppose him." Similarly, the statement of ʿUmar to ʿAlī: "You have become the protector of every believing man and woman" is also not authentic due to the unique narration by ʿAlī ibn Zayd, as previously mentioned. Having understood this, the reason for elaborating on the ḥadīth and clarifying its authenticity is that I saw Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah had weakened the first part of the ḥadīth, while regarding the other part, he claimed it was a fabrication! This is an exaggeration on his part, which I believe stems from his haste in declaring ḥadīths weak before gathering all their chains and thoroughly examining them. And Allāh is the one whose help is sought. As for what the Shīʿah mention in this ḥadīth and others, that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said about ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): "He is my successor after me," it is not authentic in any way. Rather, it is among their many falsehoods, which historical reality has proven to be lies. For if it were assumed that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, it would have occurred as he said, because it is (a revelation revealed), and Allāh, the Exalted, does not break His promise. I have addressed some of their ḥadīths on this matter in the other book: "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (4923 and 4932) among a collection of ḥadīths they used as evidence in "al-Murājaʿāt," where I clarified their weakness and falsehood, and his lies in some of them, and his fabrications against the Imams of the Sunnah.
