- "The first moment the martyr's blood is shed, all his sins are forgiven except for debt." Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" and its narrators are those of the authentic collections from Sahl ibn Ḥunayf in a marfūʿ form as in al-Majmaʿ (4/128). It was also reported by al-Ḥākim (2/119) and through him by al-Bayhaqī (9/163-164) from the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd al-Māzinī from Sahl ibn Abī Umāmah ibn Sahl ibn Ḥunayf from his father from his grandfather in a marfūʿ form without the phrase: "except for debt." Both he and al-Dhahabī remained silent because it was mentioned as supporting evidence for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAmr: "The martyr is forgiven all sins except for debt," and both he and al-Dhahabī authenticated it. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd al-Māzinī is mentioned as such in "al-Mustadrak," and I suspect it is a distortion of "al-Madanī," as mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (2/2/238), who reported that Ibn Maʿīn said: "I do not know him." I say: However, al-Haythamī's statement regarding al-Ṭabarānī's route: "and its narrators are those of the authentic collections," suggests it is from a different route because he is not among the narrators of "the authentic collections," nor did any of the six include him, and this is supported by the difference in wording, as it does not include "except for debt" as previously mentioned. In summary, the ḥadīth is at least ḥasan due to other supporting evidence if not ṣaḥīḥ. Then I saw it in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" by al-Ṭabarānī, who reported it (5552 and 5553) from two routes from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sharīḥ (and in the other route: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sahl al-Madanī) from Sahl ibn Abī Umāmah with it. I say: This isnād is authentic, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs from the first route, as ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sharīḥ is al-Maʿāfirī al-Iskandarānī, trustworthy from their narrators, as well as Sahl and Ibn Wahb. As for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sahl al-Madanī, I am inclined to believe that the correct name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd as mentioned in "al-Mustadrak," as Ibn Abī Ḥātim (2/2/238) mentioned him as follows:
