and the ḥadīth was also recorded by Ibn Mājah (4199) and Abū Yaʿlá (4/1776) through another chain from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd, without the segment about the worldly life.

"Indeed, Gog and Magog dig every day until they are almost able to see the rays of the sun. The one in charge of them says: 'Return, and we will dig it tomorrow.' Then Allāh restores it to its previous state, stronger than before. When their appointed time comes and Allāh wills to send them forth upon the people, they will dig until they are almost able to see the rays of the sun. The one in charge of them will say: 'Return, and we will dig it tomorrow, if Allāh wills,' and they will make an exception. They will return to it, and it will be as they left it. They will dig and emerge upon the people, consuming the water, and the people will seek refuge from them in their fortresses. They will shoot their arrows into the sky, and they will return with blood on them, saying: 'We have conquered the people of the earth and have risen above the people of the sky.' Then Allāh will send a worm in their necks, and they will be killed by it. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the beasts of the earth will grow fat and be grateful for their flesh.'" It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/197), Ibn Mājah (4080), Ibn Ḥibbān (1908), al-Ḥākim (4/488), and Aḥmad (2/510-511 and 511) through various chains from Qatādah, narrated by Abū Rāfiʿ from Abū Hurayrah in a marfūʿ form. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥasan gharīb ḥadīth; we only know it through this route." Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. There is a corroborating narration from Abū Saʿīd, which will be referenced under number (1793). The last part of it has a corroborating narration in the long ḥadīth of the Dajjāl from the narration of al-Nawās ibn Samʿān in a marfūʿ form. It was recorded by Muslim (8/197-199) and others, as will be mentioned under ḥadīth (1780)
