and a comprehensive promise, and that the latter follows the former, we would have found for you, O Ibrāhīm, better than what we found, and indeed we are grieved for you." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (1589) and Ibn Saʿd (1/143). This isnād is good in terms of supporting evidence, and al-Būṣīrī has deemed it good. There are other supporting reports with Ibn Saʿd (1/136-140), including from Anas ibn Mālik, and it is in "the two Ṣaḥīḥs," and I have included it in "Fiqh al-Sīrah by Ustādh al-Ghazālī" (p. 484).

"The allies of Allāh are those who, when seen, remind one of Allāh." It was recorded by al-Marwazī in "Zawāʾid al-Zuhd" (218), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12325), Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/231), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (212/2) through two chains from Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ. I said: The men of al-Ṭabarānī and Abū Nuʿaym are trustworthy except for this Jaʿfar, about whom al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but makes mistakes." Sahl Abū al-Asad contradicted him, saying from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr as mursal, without mentioning Ibn ʿAbbās in its isnād. It was recorded by Ibn al-Mubārak in "al-Zuhd" (217) and al-Dūlābī in "al-Kuná" (1/106). I said: And this Sahl is trustworthy as Ibn Maʿīn said. Abū Zurʿah said: Truthful. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (1/74), so his narration is preferred over that of Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah, making the ḥadīth mursal. As for what al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/78): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are trustworthy"!
