al-Baghawī narrated it in "his Tafsīr" (7/528) from this perspective with the wording: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) looked at Ṭalḥah ibn ʿAbd Allāh and said: Whoever wishes to look at a man walking on the face of the earth who has fulfilled his vow, let him look at this one." The author of "Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ" attributed it to al-Tirmidhī in one of his narrations, which is an error on his part, may Allāh have mercy on him. In summary, the ḥadīth, with these chains and supporting evidences, reaches the level of authenticity. Although their wordings differ, the meaning is the same as is apparent, and al-Ḥāfiẓ confirmed it in "al-Fatḥ" (8/398 - Būlāq). And Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth alludes to the saying of Allāh (Exalted is He): "Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allāh; some of them have fulfilled their vow, and some of them are still waiting, and they have not changed in the least" (Sūrah al-Aḥzāb, verse 23). It also highlights a great virtue of Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), as the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) informed that he was among those who fulfilled their vow, even though he was still alive, awaiting to fulfill what he pledged to Allāh. Ibn al-Athīr said in "al-Nihāyah": "The vow (nuhb) is a pledge, as if he obliged himself to confront the enemies of Allāh in battle, and he fulfilled it. It is also said that the vow (nuhb) is death, as if he obliges himself to fight until he dies." He (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) was killed on the Day of the Camel. Woe to those who killed him.
