and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (1/360) from various chains from Sufyān, who informed us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār from Yaḥyá ibn Jaʿdah who said: "Some people from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) visited Khabbāb and said: Rejoice, Abū ʿAbd Allāh! You will meet Muḥammad (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) at the basin. He said: How about this or that, and he pointed to the top of his house and to its bottom, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said..." and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic, if Allāh wills, and all its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, except for Yaḥyá ibn Jaʿdah, who is a trustworthy tābiʿī, who narrated from Khabbāb and other Companions. And al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/254): "...and its men are the men of the authentic collections except for Yaḥyá ibn Jaʿdah, and he is trustworthy." And it has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Salmān al-Fārisī, and there are various chains from him: the first is from al-Ḥasan who said: When Salmān was on his deathbed, he cried and said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) entrusted us with a covenant, and we left what he entrusted us with: that one of us should have from the world only the provision of a traveler. He said: Then we looked at what he left behind, and it was valued at twenty-something dirhams, or thirty-something dirhams. It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/438): Ḥushaym narrated to us from Manṣūr from him. I said: And this isnād, its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, except that Ḥushaym is a mudallis, and likewise al-Ḥasan, who is al-Baṣrī, except that the apparent meaning of his statement: "Then we looked..." is that he witnessed Salmān's deathbed and his narration, but they have interpreted al-Ḥasan's statement in some of his narrations: "Ibn ʿAbbās addressed us in al-Baṣrah" to mean: he addressed the people of al-Baṣrah. So it is possible that he meant by his statement: "We looked" something similar in interpretation! As if he meant the people who were present with him! And he was followed by al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyá from al-Ḥasan in it. Without his statement: "Then we looked." It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym (1/196)
