- "The likeness of a believing servant when he is afflicted with fever or illness is like a piece of iron that enters the fire, its impurities are removed, and its goodness remains." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (1/348), al-Bazzār in his "Musnad" (no. 756), Ibn Abī al-Dunyā (68/1), and Ibn ʿAsākir (9/427/2) from Nāfiʿ ibn Yazīd who narrated to me from Jaʿfar ibn Rabīʿah from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Sāʾib: that ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar narrated to him from his father ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic, its narrators are from Medina and Egypt." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (2/302): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr', and it includes someone unknown." So he said! And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar is a minor Companion who died before al-Ḥarrah, and he is mentioned in "the Ṣaḥīḥayn" with ʿĀʾishah, and he is among the narrators of Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī. His son ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (3/1/15) from the narration of Jaʿfar ibn Rabīʿah about him, and he did not mention any criticism or praise about him. However, Ibn Ḥibbān included him in "Thiqāt al-Tābiʿīn" (3222/137) and said: "He is from the people of Medina, narrates from his father and a group of the Tābiʿīn, and the people of Medina narrated from him." He is known for the narration of the people of Medina from him, among them ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān mentioned later, so he is among the reliable Tābiʿīn, and his ḥadīth is considered good, if Allāh wills. As for ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who is the son of al-Sāʾib, Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (2/2/323): "He narrated from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar, and Nāfiʿ ibn Yazīd narrated from him."
