I said: Then he and Abū Yaʿlá (Q 45/1) and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/278) narrated it through the route of Ṭalḥah ibn Yaḥyá from Mūsá and ʿĪsá, the sons of Ṭalḥah, from their father Ṭalḥah, that the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to an ignorant Bedouin: Ask him about those who have fulfilled their vow, who are they? They did not dare to ask him themselves, out of respect and reverence for him. So the Bedouin asked him, but he turned away from him. Then he asked him again, and he turned away from him. Then I looked from the door of the mosque wearing green clothes, and when the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw me, he said: Where is the one who asked about those who have fulfilled their vow? He said: It is I, O Messenger of Allāh. He said: This is one of those who have fulfilled their vow. And he said: "This is a good and strange ḥadīth." I said: Its isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, except that some have spoken about Ṭalḥah ibn Yaḥyá due to his memory, yet his ḥadīth does not fall below the rank of ḥasan. And he was not alone in narrating the ḥadīth, for al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (1/13/2) from Sulaymān ibn Ayyūb who said: My father told me from my grandfather from Mūsá ibn Ṭalḥah from his father who said: Whenever the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw me, he would say: "Whoever wants to see a martyr walking on the face of the earth, let him look at Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh." I said: This isnād is weak; this Sulaymān is known for strange narrations, and Ibn Mahdī said: "Most of his ḥadīths are not corroborated by others." And al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (9/149): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Sulaymān ibn Ayyūb al-Ṭalḥī, who has been deemed trustworthy, but a group has weakened him, and there are people in it whom I do not know." And the ḥadīth has a good mursal witness with the wording:
