"we were sitting waiting for the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) (in the prayer area) on the day of Eid al-Adha. He came and greeted the people and said: (and he mentioned it), then he advanced and led the people in two units of prayer, then he concluded. He faced the people, then he was given a bow or a staff and leaned on it, praised Allāh and extolled Him, and commanded them and forbade them." I said: This is a good chain of narration; its men are trustworthy, and regarding Abū Janāb, whose name is Yaḥyā ibn Abī Ḥabbah, there is some criticism, the most significant being his tadlīs [concealment of sources], but here he explicitly stated the narration as you see. The ḥadīth is in "the two Ṣaḥīḥs" and others with similar wording.
"The inhabitants of the Fire will weep until if ships were to be set afloat in their tears, they would sail, and they will weep blood, meaning instead of tears." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/605) through the route of Abū al-Nuʿmān Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl who said: Salām ibn Miskīn narrated to us, saying: Abū Burdah narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qays that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it, and he said: "A ḥadīth with a sound chain of narration." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: It is appropriate to add his statement: "according to the condition of the two Shaykhs," for all its men are from their narrators, but this Abū al-Nuʿmān—nicknamed (ʿĀrim)—had become confused, and I do not know whether he narrated it before or after his confusion. However, the ḥadīth is supported by what Yazīd al-Raqāshī narrated from Anas ibn Mālik in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "Weeping will be sent upon the inhabitants of the Fire, and they will weep until the tears are exhausted, then they will weep blood until it forms on their faces like trenches, if ships were sent in it, they would sail." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (4324) and Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "Ṣifat al-Nār" (p. 12/1)
