danāj said: "I witnessed Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān sitting in a mosque during the time of Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khālid ibn Asīd. He said: al-Ḥasan came and sat with him, and we conversed. Abū Salamah said: Abū Hurayrah narrated to us from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said. (He mentioned it). al-Ḥasan said: What is their sin?! He replied: I am narrating to you from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), so al-Ḥasan remained silent. Al-Bayhaqī also narrated it in the book "al-Baʿth wa-al-Nushūr," as did al-Bazzār, al-Ismāʿīlī, and al-Khaṭṭābī, all from the route of Yūnus ibn Muḥammad who narrated it from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Mukhtār. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī, and he included it in his Ṣaḥīḥ in a summarized form, saying (2/304-305): Musaddad narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Mukhtār narrated it with the wording: "The sun and the moon will be rolled up on the Day of Resurrection." He does not include the story of Abū Salamah with al-Ḥasan, which is authentic. Al-Khaṭīb al-Tibrīzī made an error in the isnād of this ḥadīth and the story, as he attributed the ḥadīth to al-Ḥasan narrating from Abū Hurayrah, and the discussion between them. I pointed this out in my commentary on his book "Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ" number (5692). There is a corroborating narration for the ḥadīth. Al-Ṭayālisī said in "Musnad" (2103): Darast narrated to us from Yazīd ibn Abān al-Raqāshī from Anas, who raised it to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with the wording: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two slaughtered bulls in the Fire." This isnād is weak due to al-Raqāshī, as he is weak, and similarly Darast, but he has been followed up
