Abū Ḥusayn from Ibn Sābiṭ from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn al-Awdī said: "Muʿādh ibn Jabal stood among us and said: O Banū Awad! I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." He mentioned it and said: "Its isnād is authentic, and Muslim ibn Khālid al-Zanjī is the leader and jurist of the people of Mecca, except that the two shaykhs have attributed that ḥadīth is not his expertise." Al-Dhahabī affirmed it. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "A jurist, truthful, but with many errors." I said: However, he was not alone in this, for al-Haythamī included it in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/396) in a similar manner without the last sentence and said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" and "al-Awsaṭ" similarly, and added: 'in bodies that do not die,' and the isnād of "al-Kabīr" is good except that Ibn Sābiṭ did not meet Muʿādh." I said: The one who was omitted between them is ʿAmr ibn Maymūn al-Awdī as narrated by al-Ḥākim..." Then he mentioned the previous statement of al-Ḥākim and affirmed it. I said: The ḥadīth has many supporting narrations in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and others regarding the slaughtering of death in the form of a ram, and it includes: "Then the caller will announce: O people of Paradise, eternity without death, and O people of Hell, eternity without death." Thus, it is authentic through these. And Allāh knows best.
