he practiced tadlīs. However, the ḥadīth is authentic, as it has many supporting narrations, except in the case of (al-Khār), for which there is a supporting narration from Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī, found in "Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz" (p. 37). I have included this here because al-Suyūṭī, in his treatise "Abwāb al-Saʿādah" (no. 58 - Egypt), only attributed it to al-Bayhaqī, and the verifier, Professor Najm ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Khalaf, did not attribute it to Aḥmad, although it meets the criteria of al-Haythamī, and he did not mention it in the sections on "Jihād" or "Funerals." It is supported by the ḥadīth of ʿUqbah ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever is thrown from his mount is a martyr." It was narrated by Abū Yaʿlá (2/486) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (17/323/892) with this wording, and the wording of Abū Yaʿlá: "... in the path of Allāh and dies, he is a martyr." The isnād of al-Ṭabarānī is authentic, and so is the isnād of Abū Yaʿlá, except that it includes: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb from ʿAmr ibn Mālik..." and I do not know this ʿAmr, and it appears that it is a distortion from "ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith," as it appears in "al-Ṭabarānī," who is one of the known teachers of Ibn Wahb. It seems that it also appeared in the version of "Abū Yaʿlá" with al-Haythamī, as he said (5/283): "Narrated by Abū Yaʿlá, and there is someone in it whom I do not know." Then he mentioned it elsewhere (5/301) with the wording of al-Ṭabarānī and said: "Its men are trustworthy."
