he said: "Inform me, O Messenger of Allāh—may my father be sacrificed for you—did I get it right or did I make a mistake?" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "You got some right and made some mistakes."
قال:فأخبرني يا رسول الله - بأبي أنت - أصبت أم أخطأت، قال النبي صلى الله عليهوسلم: " أصبت بعضا، وأخطأت بعضا ".
"You got some right and made some mistakes." This is from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, and its wording is: "A man came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: 'I saw in my dream last night a cloud dripping with butter and honey, and I saw people collecting from it, some in large amounts and some in small. Then there was a rope extending from the earth to the sky, and I saw you take hold of it and ascend. Then another man took hold of it and ascended, then another man took hold of it and ascended, then a man took hold of it and it broke, then it was reconnected.' Abū Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, may my father be sacrificed for you, by Allāh, let me interpret it.' The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: 'Interpret it.' He said: 'As for the cloud, it is Islam. As for what drips from the honey and butter, it is the Qurʾān, its sweetness dripping. Some take much from the Qurʾān and some take little. As for the rope extending from the sky to the earth, it is the truth that you are upon, you take hold of it and Allāh elevates you. Then a man takes hold of it and is elevated by it, then another man takes hold of it and is elevated by it, then a man takes hold of it and it breaks, then it is reconnected for him and he is elevated by it. Inform me, O Messenger of Allāh—may my father be sacrificed for you—did I get it right or did I make a mistake?' The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'You got some right and made some mistakes.' He said: 'By Allāh, tell me what I got wrong.' He said: 'Do not swear.'" It was also recorded by Muslim (7/55-56), Abū Dāwūd (3268, 4632), al-Tirmidhī (2/47), al-Dārimī (2/128), Ibn Mājah (3918), and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (12/190/2), and Aḥmad (1/236), all from Ibn ʿAbbās, except that some of them narrated it from Abū Hurayrah, but Imām al-Bukhārī favored the first, that it is from Ibn ʿAbbās, with no mention of Abū Hurayrah in it. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar followed him in "al-Fatḥ," and Allāh knows best. Explanation of the ḥadīth: (ẓullah) means a cloud that provides shade, and anything that provides shade like a canopy is called a ẓullah
" أصبت بعضا وأخطأت بعضا ". وهو من حديث ابن عباس ولفظه: " أن رجلا أتى رسول الله ﷺ فقال: إني رأيت الليلة في المنام ظلة تنطف بالسمن والعسل، فأرى الناس يتكففون منها، فالمستكثر والمستقل، وإذا سبب واصل من الأرض إلى السماء، فأراك أخذت به فعلوت، ثم أخذ به رجل آخر فعلا به، ثم أخذه رجل آخر فعلا به، ثم أخذه رجل فانقطع، ثم وصل، فقال أبو بكر: يا رسول الله بأبي أنت والله لتدعني فأعبرها، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم له: أعبرها، قال: أما الظلة فالإسلام، وأما الذي ينطف من العسل والسمن فالقرآن حلاوته تنطف، فالمستكثر من القرآن والمستقل، وأما السبب الواصل من السماء إلى الأرض فالحق الذي أنت عليه تأخذ به، فيعليك الله، ثم يأخذ به رجل، فيعلو به، ثم يأخذ به رجل آخر فيعلو به، ثم يأخذ به رجل فينقطع به، ثم يوصل له فيعلو به، فأخبرني يا رسول الله - بأبي أنت - أصبت أم أخطأت، قال النبي ﷺ: أصبت بعضا، وأخطأت بعضا، قال فوالله لتحدثني بالذي أخطأت، قال: لا تقسم ". وأخرجه مسلم أيضا (٧ / ٥٥ - ٥٦) وأبو داود (٣٢٦٨، ٤٦٣٢) والترمذي (٢ / ٤٧) والدارمي (٢ / ١٢٨) وابن ماجه (٣٩١٨) وابن أبي شيبة في " المصنف " (١٢ / ١٩٠ / ٢) وأحمد (١ / ٢٣٦) كلهم عن ابن عباس، إلا أن بعضهم جعله من روايته عن أبي هريرة، ورجح الإمام البخاري الأول، وهو أنه عن ابن عباس، ليس لأبي هريرة فيه ذكر. وتبعه على ذلك الحافظ ابن حجر في " الفتح " والله أعلم. غريب الحديث: (ظلة) أي سحابة لها ظل، وكل ما أظل من سقيفة ونحوها يسمى ظلة.
